GS300C DESCRIPTIVE ITINERARY      
                                                   
Travel from Christchurch through the rich pastoral farmland of the Canterbury Plains, then travel inland to the township of Geraldine where you stop for morning tea (own expense).  From Geraldine travel across historic Burkes Pass before descending to the stunning glacial-fed Lake Tekapo to visit the Church of the Good Shepherd that stands on the lake foreshore.  From here the tour travels up the western side of Lake Pukaki to Mount Cook.  Spend time enjoying lunch (own expense) or exploring the Mount Cook Village.  Return to Christchurch by coach.  There is time for an optional scenic flight before returning to Christchurch (weather permitting).

The majestic beauty of the South Island is a must for any visitor to the South Island and one of the best ways to view the spectacular scenery is aboard a Great Sights luxury coach.  This tour takes you from Christchurch, through diverse farmland to Lake Tekapo, where you can view the solitary Church of the Good Shepherd.  Your tour continues along the Tasman River before arriving at the location of New Zealand’s tallest mountain Aoraki / Mount Cook.  There is time to experience an optional scenic helicopter or ski plane flight (weather permitting) before departing for New Zealand’s Adventure Capital, Queenstown.

Departing Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park follow the shores of Lake Pukaki and into the rugged landscape of the Mackenzie Basin.   Stop in Omarama for afternoon tea (own expense) before continuing on through the golden tussock country of the Lindis Pass.  Enjoy the scenery of the fruit growing region of Cromwell and the historic gold mining region of the rugged Kawarau Gorge before arriving in Queenstown this evening.

This tour is a reverse of the Great Sights “Christchurch – Mount Cook – Queenstown” tour (GS62).  Depart Queenstown and travel through the rugged and beautiful landscape of Otago.  Cross the Lindis Pass into the Mackenzie Country to visit Mount Cook Village at the base of New Zealand’s highest mountain Aoraki / Mount Cook.  Here there is time to experience an optional scenic helicopter or skiplane flight with a snow landing (weather permitting).  Continue your journey with a stop at the Church of the Good Shepherd on the shores of Lake Tekapo, before continuing to your destination of Christchurch.
